Hymns From The Gathering Church

1.
There's a church in the valley by the wildwood No lovelier spot in the dale No place is so dear to my childhood As the little brown church in the vale Oh, come come come come Come to the church in the wildwood Come to the church in the dale No place is so dear to my childhood As the little brown church in the vale
2.
What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. REFRAIN: Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting Arms. O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms; O how bright the path Grows from day to day, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. REFRAIN What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms; I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. REFRAIN
3.
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul! What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, To bear the dreadful curse for my soul. When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul. And when from death we’re free, we’ll sing on, we’ll sing on; And when from death we’re free, we’ll sing on. And when from death we’re free, we’ll sing and joyful be; And through eternity, we’ll sing on, we’ll sing on; And through eternity, we’ll sing on.
4.
How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word. What more can he say, than to you he hath said; To you, who for refuge to Jesus have fled? When through the deep waters I call thee to go The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow For I shall be with thee thy troubles to bless And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply. The flame shall not hurt thee, I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
5.
He leadeth me: O blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught! Whate'er I do, where'er I be, still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me. REFRAIN: He leadeth me, he leadeth me, By his own hand he leadeth me; His faithful follower I would be, For by his hand he leadeth me. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom, By waters still, o'er troubled sea, Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me. REFRAIN Lord, I would place my hand in thine, Nor ever murmur nor repine; Content, whatever lot I see, Since 'tis my God that leadeth me. REFRAIN And when my task on earth is done, When by thy grace the victory's won, E'en death's cold wave I will not flee, Since God through Jordan leadeth me. REFRAIN
6.
Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side. Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; leave to your God to order and provide; in every change God faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul; your God will undertake to guide the future, as in ages past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know the Christ who ruled them while He dwelt below. Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening on when we shall be forever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
7.
What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer. Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield you; You will find a solace there.
8.
Abide with me; Fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers Fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, Abide with me. Thou on my head In early youth didst smile, And though rebellious And perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, Oft as I left Thee. On to the close, O Lord, Abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross Before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom And point me to the skies; Heav’n’s morning breaks, And earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, Abide with me.
9.
Come Thou fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace. Streams of mercy never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love. Here I raise my Ebenezer, Hither by Thy help I come. And I hope by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wondering from the fold of God. He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart Lord, take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above. Here’s my heart Lord, take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.
10.
God be in my head, and in my understanding; God be in mine eyes, and in my looking; God be mouth, and in my speaking; God be in my heart, and in my thinking; God be in mine end, and in my departing.
11.
Twelve-hundred miles, its length and breadth, That four-square city stands. It's gem-set walls of Jasper shine, Not made by human hands. One-hundred miles it's gates are wide: Abundant entrance there. With fifty miles of elbow room, On either side to spare. When the gates swing wide on the other side, Just beyond the sunset sea. There'll be room to spare as we enter there, Room for you and room for me. For the gates are wide on the other side, Where the fairest flowers bloom. On the right hand and on the left hand, Fifty miles of elbow room. Sometimes I'm cramped and I'm crowded here, And I long for elbow room. I long to reach for altitude, Where the fairest flowers bloom. It won't be long before I pass, Into that city fair. With fifty miles of elbow room, On either side to spare. When the gates swing wide on the other side, Just beyond the sunset sea. There'll be room to spare as we enter there. Room for you and room for me. For the gates are wide on the other side, Where the fairest flowers bloom. On the right hand and on the left hand, Fifty miles of elbow room.
12.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Praise Him all creatures here below! Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts! Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
